Having just found a new home in Chicago, Artistic Director Molly Lyons is searching her new city for a good home for classes & workshops and both the perfect location & best timing for the AIRE event.
Audition Intensive: September 26 & 27

WHEN: Saturday, September 26, 9:30am - 6:00pm and Sunday, September 27, 9:30am - 1:30pm.
WHERE: Signal Ensemble Theatre, 1802 W. Berenice Ave., Chicago. Easily accessible by car, el, bus, bike or scooter, I highly recommend their awesome and detailed Directions Page.

WHAT: a lot of movement so please wear appropriate attire. We do not recommend jeans. We will take a break around 1 for lunch/coffee. This is a highly active workshop, with engaging exercises that are immediately applicable to your pieces. Ted, Molly & Steve have taught together for over 10 years. All three instructors are after the same truth via their own unique approach.
WORKSHOP SIZE LIMITED: This workshop is very limited in size (12 maximum). To get on the list, please go to our contact page, sign up (which will get you on the list) and send a deposit of $50 (which will guarantee your place in the workshop) to Molly Lyons. She will give you the mailing address after you register.
COST: $165 for 13 hours with 3 teachers. (Returning students starting Saturday afternoon, $130 for Sessions 2, 3, 4.)
REGISTER: on our Contact page. You will need: water, a snack, & lunch. Please bring your lunch (there is a Trader Joe's a block away), we will be eating during the workshop with short breaks. Wear comfortable clothes in which you can move - we do not recommend jeans. You will need two memorized pieces, standard regional repertory audition, one classical & one contemporary - UNDER ONE MINUTE EACH and do time them - with which you can work. For your contemporary monologue, we highly recommend using a Chicago playwright. For your classical piece, please use 10-16 lines of verse. If you wish to explore a Sonnet, they are the perfect length and there are over 150 of them. If you have a repertoire of memorized Shakespeare text, bring as many pieces as you know, for the "jam" part of the Sunday morning workshop. For the Showcase Performance, please bring an audition outfit and your headshot and resume.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
Session One - Saturday morning 9:30-11:30: a panel from all 3 instructors on auditioning and, specifically, auditioning in Chicago; tackling the black hole the entrance, introduction and exit of your two minutes, how to reverse the power structure and shine. **Actors who have taken this workshop may start with Session Two.
Session Two - Saturday afternoon 12-6: cold-reading work with Ted Hoerl; contemporary monologue work with Steve Scott; classical monologue work with Molly Lyons. **Actors who have taken this workshop may start with Session Two.
Session Three - Sunday morning 9:30-11:00: polishing your audition package with all 3 instructors.
Session Four Performance of your pieces - Sunday 11:30-1:30: Concluding the intensive is an audition facsimile of your newly polished package of classical & contemporary monologues followed by a "call-back" of cold-reading material (from Saturday's workshop). Again, please bring an audition outfit and your headshot & resume. This is not for the general public but for you to go through the audition process.
